Το αιθέριο έλαιο δεντρολίβανου αποστάζεται με ατμό από τα άνθη, τους βλαστούς και τα φύλλα του φυτού. Σύμφωνα με τη Βρετανική Φαρμακοποιία, το έλαιο που αποστάζεται από τις ανθισμένες κορυφές είναι ανώτερο από αυτό που λαμβάνεται από το στέλεχος και τα φύλλα, από όπου λέγεται ότι αποστάζεται σχεδόν όλο το εμπορικό έλαιο. Η μυρωδιά του αιθέριου ελαίου δεντρολίβανου είναι ξυλώδης και βοτανική και χρησιμοποιείται στην αρωματοθεραπεία για να ανανεώσει και να τονώσει το μυαλό.

Αυτό το έλαιο λέγεται ότι είναι χρήσιμο για τη θεραπεία πληγών, εγκαυμάτων, κρυολογημάτων, γρίπης, κόπωσης, πεπτικών προβλημάτων, πονοκεφάλων, άσθματος, βρογχίτιδας, ουρικής αρθρίτιδας, ρευματισμών, προβλημάτων ήπατος και χοληδόχου κύστης, κατακράτησης υγρών και κακής κυκλοφορίας. Για μασάζ, το έλαιο δεντρολίβανου συχνά αναμιγνύεται με ένα ή δύο βασικά έλαια όπως αμυγδαλέλαιο, έλαιο βερίκοκου ή φουντουκιού. Είναι καλό για τα μαλλιά, καθώς λέγεται ότι αυξάνει την κυκλοφορία στο τριχωτό της κεφαλής και προάγει την ανάπτυξη των μαλλιών.
